How long does it take for a new account to be setup?
Accounts which are paid via bank are generally setup the same day that you submit your order. If your order arrives in the evening the account could be setup the same day or possibly the next day. Account setup will take no longer than 24 hours maximum. Accounts paid via check or money order are setup the same day payment arrives at our sales department.

What types of payment does Shells.com.cy accept?

What kind of connection does Shells.com.cy have to the internet?
Our network is connected directly to AboveNet's fiber optic IP network via several 100 Mbps fast ethernet links. AboveNet utilizes OC-192 down to OC-3 technology with over 300 peering arrangements to insure that our IP traffic finds the best path to its destination on the internet.

What operating system do you run?
We run the FreeBSD operating system on all of our servers which is the most stable of the unix variants.

Are you up to date with security and patches?
Yes, all of our servers are kept up to date daily via updates from our private cvsup server. Incase of any downtime due to software or security upgrades, customers are notified at least 24 hours in advance whenever possible.

Shell Account Questions

Where can I see a list of your public virtual hosts?
In your shell account you can type "vhosts" for our vhost list or click here to see the vhost list for each of our servers online.

How do I change my account password?
After you login to your account you must type "passwd". Our system will then ask you for your old password and your new password twice.

How do I enable my personal web site?
Create a ~/public_html directory in your account. Afterwards any files uploaded in that directory will show up on your personal web site.

How do I kill a background process?
In your shell type "ps ux" which will display a list of running processes and their respective PID numbers. To kill a process find its pid number and type "kill -9 pid#".

How much quota (disk space) have I used?
In your shell type "quota". The number listed under usage is your quota usage in kilobytes.

How many connections to IRC am I allowed to have from my BNC?
There should be no more than 1 connection to IRC from any single BNC process running on our servers. Launching more than 1 connection to IRC from your BNC would be considering cloning and against our policies.

Do you allow crontab access on shell accounts?
Yes, all of our shell accounts are allowed to use crontab.

Web Hosting Questions

Does Shells.com.cy offer domain registration services?
Yes, we are proud to offer domain registration for €15,00 per year. Please visit our Domain Registration page for more details.

How long does it take a domain to transfer to your name servers?
After you have requested your domain be transfered to our name servers your domain should be working from our servers within 24 hours.

Do you support PHP extensions and MySQL databases?
Yes. All of our web servers support PHP and MySQL. If you would like a MySQL database created please send as an email contact form.

How do I upload files to my web site?
You can connect to our server to upload files via FTP or secure FTP to upload files. Upon connecting to our server you will see a "www" directory in your account. All files must be uploaded inside that directory for them to show up on your web site.

Miscellaneous Questions

Is the time and date on your servers always accurate?
All of our servers are synced to stratum 1 time servers which use the atomic clock to accurately keep track of time. The time on our servers is never more than 1 second off.

I have a problem with another user of your service, what can I do?
Please e-mail us at abuses@shells.com.cy and state your situation. We have many servers and can make sure we separate you to help avoid any future problems.
